Paint Colors In Real Life Rooms – Benjamin Moore Natural Wicker

I love looking at paint colors and today I thought I’d post another one of my paint color posts.  The color below is Benjamin Moore Natural Wicker.  This is a very flattering, creamy neutral.  It is a beautiful backdrop to natural textures such as matchstick blinds and seagrass rugs.

Paint Colors in Real Life Rooms

Today, I thought I’d post another “paint colors in real life rooms” post.  Today we’re going to look at Benjamin Moore’s Beachglass.  I love this color!  It’s a bit of a chameleon; ranging anywhere from a pale green, grayed blue or gray depending on the light and surroundings.   Below are a couple of real life rooms that are painted in Beachglass….love the name, love the color!

New paint color in the laundry room – and how to choose a paint color from a fabric swatch

One of the things that we did while working on our laundry room was to update the paint color.  The room was a bland beige flat paint before.  I wanted something that was bright and cheery given laundry is one of my least favorite jobs in the world.  I knew that I wanted a bright, cheery green and I let the colors in my accent fabric dictate my choice in paint color.

Here is a picture of the fabric that I used in my laundry room.

And close up so you can see all the colors…

The easiest way to pick a paint color is to use the colors on the sides of a raw piece of fabric.

And here is a look at the paint color when paired with the fabric.

(The paint color I used is Glidden Shy Blossom)

I could have used a blue with this fabric as well but I knew I wanted a more crisp color and green fit the bill perfectly!

And here is the wall color…(same wall) before and after:

The next laundry room post will be the board and batten wall treatment.

Do you have a laundry room that functions well and is pretty to look at?  I hope this inspires you to make it a pretty place to be.

Kitchen table repaint

Next to last post on these rooms, I promise!  We’ve tackled alot in the past several weeks!

While updating my kitchen/dining area, it became more apparent to me that I needed to do something with my kitchen table.  The finish is rough and the fabric seats needed to be recovered.  We bought this table from Craigslist and I like it because of it’s size.  It seats 6 people comfortably and is very sturdy.  The style fits my taste too….simple and casual.

Here is what the table looked like before.

This is not the best before picture but look at the red seat covers and then imagine four years of kid grime on them….Yuck…I think you get the picture now.

To start, I removed the seats with a screwdriver and painted all six chairs with my Bullseye primer and sealer to cut the varnish (and years of nasty) off the chairs and ready them for the coat of paint they were about to get.

I recovered the seats with a couple of tan paisley tablecloths that I got at TJ Maxx last summer.  I was going to use them as curtains but changed my mind.  Before stapling the fabric to the chair, I covered it with a thick vinyl to protect the fabric.  This light color will stain as soon as my kids look at it!  We do have constant giggles during dinner when someone’s leg sticks to the seat and everyone thinks they farted, but that’s a small price to pay to have wipe-able (and beautiful) seats!!

My  next project for this table will be the top.  It is super soft pine and has writing imprints on it from  three kids and a husbands homework…argh!  That’s a project for another day though.  It’s much better now than it was….it’s a work in progress!!  :)

Small cabinet gets a facelift

Just two more posts to go before I show you my finished kitchen, dining room and family room.  I will still have a few little miscellaneous projects such as pillow covers, etc. but I’ll show them to you as I do them.

Now on to this post.  My super talented husband built me this cabinet out of scrap plywood a few years ago.  It started life a creamy white but I painted it brown when we moved.

I wasn’t wild about the way the brown paint turned out but I also wasn’t wild about repainting it at the time.  Enter our kitchen update.  This was the perfect opportunity to inject a little more seaglass color into the rooms.  Just a few simple steps and the cabinet is looking much better now.

1) Prime with Bullseye (or Kilz ) primer to cut the finish of the existing paint and help the new paint adhere better.

2) Next, I used two coats of paint and voila!

Lookin’ good!  :)

I think I’ve painted enough furniture blue-green so my next post you’ll see some furniture get a different color treatment.

Happy Decorating!!
