It Must Be Love – Washi Tape Planner

Today, I am posting a picture that I ran across on Pinterest and it was LOVE at first sight.  I am obsessed with my planner.  I color code my to do’s by category and I’m sure that I need medication {need proof?}  I am uber organized and I love seeing pretty things when I look at my avalanche of kids activities and chores….it just makes the load seem a little bit easier.  Enter Jensie’s solution….holy crap is that cute!  I think she and I could be long lost twins separated at birth…she of course would be the twin born with the better handwriting gene.  So, if you can move past the facts that I need medication and should probably be arrested for stalking…check out how she organized her planner with washi tape.  I loved it sooooo much that I have already ordered several rolls of washi tape for myself.

Is that not the cutest thing you’ve ever seen?  I may have to bore y’all to tears with pictures and posts dedicated strictly to my calendar once I have it all taped up!  Aren’t you excited?!  Is anyone else out there as giddy about this photo as I am?

Kitchen Drawer Organizer

This is a spur of the moment post.  I promise I’ll get back to my laundry room soon, but first a short story.  :)

This weekend my oh-so-sweet husband asked me if there was anything I wanted him to do before he went out in the garage to putter around.  I know the question was gratuitous, and I normally answer with a gratuitous “no” but that day I didn’t.  I have had problems with my kitchen utensil drawer since we moved in two years ago.  With a family of five, the usual silverware set is not large enough for us so we have two sets.  Two sets of silverware do not fit in typical drawer organizers hence the mess below that is the typical state of our silverware.  I asked him to cut some dividers for me.  Just for the record….here is what our actual conversation looked like:

Husband:  ”Do you have anything you need me to do before I go outside?

Me:  ”Yes.  Could you please cut some dividers for my silverware drawer so I can get them organized?  It will only take a few minutes…I don’t need anything elaborate, just some simple dividers.”

Husband:  ”How come the things you ask me to do “really quick” never are that simple?”

Me:  At this point I just smile, bat my eyes and tell him how much it would mean to me.

Here is what our drawer looked like before:

There’s tons of wasted space in there!!  This drives me nuts!!

Soooo…my husband made this for me out of some scrap MDF that was left over from the board and batten wall treatment in the laundry room.

You just slide it into the drawer and I can take it back out when I need to clean the drawer.  (He thought of making it that way….he’s so smart like that!!)

And here is my much better organized kitchen drawer.  Prepare to hear angels sing….

In my defense, it only took him about 20 minutes, start to finish….so it really was “quick”.

The End   :)

What have you done lately to fix your trouble spots around your house?

Very chic organizer at a fantastic price

Just a quick note….MomAgenda has super cute organizers and planners and right now you can get one for a fantastic price.  Right now they are offering free shipping as well as 20% off their planners.  If you get one of their slightly damaged planners you can snag a planner that would cost $32.98 plus shipping for $11.86!  I could pay full price and it will be slightly damaged within a day or two from hauling it around so I’m fine with a tiny flaw on the front end!

I ordered the black and white tiger print.  You can’t beat that price and these planners are fantastic for busy ladies!  Just look at how cute these things are!  Great for staying organized and stylish at the same time!

Backpack organization solution

Our kitchen update brought to light a problem that we are having with where to put backpacks.  I had originally installed hooks in the garage to  hang them on but that worked for about five seconds.  It was too far away from Grand Central Station (aka the kitchen). Then I had them all sitting on a bench in the kitchen…backpacks do not make the best decor enhancement.  It’s much more convenient to have the backpacks within reach (but conveniently out of the way) so that I can sign agendas or papers for school for everyone in an organized manner……I’m all about the organizin’.

Solution to problem:  We had an empty hall that was not being used just outside the kitchen. Eureka!!

We bought the supplies at the Habitat Home Store and the entire project required less than $30!!  I already had the letter hooks just waiting for the right project to use them.

So, without further ado, here are the pics:

Before (boring!!) :

And here’s the after…..ta da!!!

A close-up of the detail:

I hung a picture of each kid above their hook just for fun!  If you can’t figure out which letter is yours, surely you can recognize your picture.  :)

An Organized Entry

Entry organization is one of the areas that people stuggle with on a daily basis. These tiny, hardworking areas often need to work very hard. If you don’t have everything organized, it can be a pain when leaving or upon arrival home.

My husband got tired of me griping about the lack of order thinks I am so fabulous that he built this entry organizer for me. We have only a small space from the garage entry into the kitchen to fit everything into so I designed it to fit everything into a tiny space. We didn’t have the floor space to we had to use the wall (one of the most overlooked spaces when organizing in my opinion). The most important things for me to have are now at arms length on my way out the door. These include:

  • Keys (we have spares on the hooks too, labeled of course)
  • Space for school papers, doctors appointments and calendars. We have a bulletin board as well as a magnetic area (sheet metal covered with taupe print contact paper) and a dry erase board for messages as well.
  • Hook for purse and coat.
  • Super cute purse to decorate that hook…just the essentials!
