Our crazy week

Hi y’all!  Happy Monday!  I had fully planned to post on Friday but last week was a booger and by Friday, it caught up with me!  My oldest son left for a mission trip last Sunday.  I fully expected to have a quiet week.  Going from having three kids down to two makes for a much quieter house.  Boy was I wrong.

On Monday, my youngest son got a go cart.  He has been saving for a year and we finally found one that he liked.  He has named it “Old Yeller”.

If you’ve looked at my Instagram photos on my sidebar then you know what’s coming next.  If not, let me just say if you are squeamish, avert your eyes.  Barely 24 hours after he got it this happened on his go cart:

He cut a turn too close and hit a fence post.  Needless to say, he got to know his steering wheel a bit more intimately than he had anticipated.  Before I lose my nomination for mother of the year…he was wearing a seatbelt…and now he’s wearing a full helmet when he rides.

Poor kid….after an afternoon visit to the pediatrician and then one to a plastic surgeon, he is sewn up and on the mend.  This was a post stitches pic…complete with blood all over the front of his shirt.  He was a trooper and did not cry once!

My oldest son returned on Friday and we celebrated his birthday yesterday.  He is the big 1-3.

Here he is eating his birthday breakfast.  His birthday marks the end of birthday-palooza at our house….finally.  Four birthday’s in two weeks is a little hectic.  Luckily, two of those are mine and my dad’s and they are on the same day.

Whew…what a week!  I hope this one is a little more calm.

Unplugged

I’m unplugging for the week.  My family is going to the lake, yippee!  I plan on doing A LOT of this:

And hopefully, not much of this:

I hope you have a fabulous Memorial Day week!  :)

A glimpse of our weekend at the lake

This past weekend, my family stayed at a lake house that I grew up spending summers in.  It was my grandparents and recently, my uncle took over maintaining it.  I am so glad it’s still in the family because this place was the single most important reason that I love being outdoors and love nature now.  The kids caught all kinds of creatures and boated all weekend long.  We really had a blast!

Nacho got a kayak ride with my daughter.

And so did Beans…..

And we caught tons of critters….Keaton is our little fisherman and she caught 7 fish.

The only problem is that she won’t take the fish off the line so you can see Tucker patiently rowing over to take the fish off the line for her.

And my husband (can you tell we’ve watched too many episodes of Crocodile Hunter) caught this gimongous man eating snake right next to my feet while I was laying on my stomach on my lawn chair reading a book.  I knew it was bad when he said “Sharon, DON’T MOVE”.  I could feel all the blood run from my face and I would have done this but I was afraid that the snake would eat me if I did….

We caught a big turtle…who did not want to come out and play.

And a little turtle who got played with ALL morning.  Wyatt and the turtle were fast friends.

We caught a green anole that the boys stalked all weekend.

And soaked up all the beautiful views…just gorgeous!

Do you have any places that you spent in your childhood that molded who you are now?

Where did I go?

My family went to the lake this past weekend so I am running a little behind.  I’ll post pics today if I can get it together in time.  We had a blast and it was great to unplug and get away!

Hopefully we’ll come through spring break in one piece

This weekend, my kids started gearing up for spring break which starts tomorrow.  We did a little bit of rainbow watching {can you spot the double rainbow?!}…

And a little backyard camping….

….a little goofing off…..

And a little bit of this…..Yikes….what a goose egg!

And all this was just this weekend…..hopefully the rest of the week is just as much fun and a little less injury prone!  I’ll be watching my kids to make sure that there are no other head injuries…and soaking them up while we have a whole week so you may not hear from me much this next week.  I hope you have a fantastic week if it’s spring break for you!
