Shelf Lighting {alternate title – my husband is the most fabulous person on earth}

This year for Christmas, I knew I wanted to get some DIY projects done around the house and #1 on my list was installing lighting in the shelves that surround our entertainment center.  Since my husband is super handy, he installed low watt, led rope lighting in each shelf.  I had just covered the back of the shelves in fabric and I wanted a subtle little glow so all of my little knick knacks show up.  While he sits and watches t.v., I stare at my tchotchkes….pure happiness!  He wired a switch on the lights so I can switch them on and off without having to unplug them each night because he knew I would have them on every waking moment.  Here are some pictures of my shelves and then I’ll show you the lighting we used.  It’s really inexpensive and makes a huge difference!  I think we did all six shelves with wiring and a switch for less than $45.oo!  Now get ready for some pictures!

These are the lights we used.  He strung a 2 ft LED  rope light above the trim of each shelf so that it would glow from the front, wouldn’t cast shadows and the lights would not be visible.  We got them at Home Depot.  :)

Didn’t he do a fabulous job?!

I think I’m in love….with a desk

I got the new Restoration Hardware catalog a few weeks back and while I was browsing through it….I saw THIS.

It’s called the English Schoolhouse Desk and I LOVE IT!!!

Check out all the storage…

I am dying for a boys room to design so I can use this in it!  Isn’t it great!!

Toilet swimming and some cool chairs

Happy Monday peeps!  I hope you had a great weekend!  I spent the weekend painting our kitchen, dining and family room for the third time in less than three years.  That’s one of the curses of being a decorating junkie.  I’m always inspired to try something new.  I love the way it looks and I can’t wait to show you.

The weekend was also spent dealing with messes.  One week after our cat Princess had surgery, she is doing much better (although she’s still not back to her usual self yet).  A funny little story that I thought I’d share….she has finally stopped peeing everywhere now that her bladder is healing .  I went to check on her in our master bath where she has been staying and she was soaking wet and our toilet seat was covered in kitty litter, water and cat hair.  It was such a mess that I actually asked the cat what happened.  I have been leaving the toilet lid down so that she has something to sit on.  Apparently Mr. Magpie left the lid up and she went to jump up on it and sailed right into the toilet.  I can only imagine what a rude shock that was!  I think she was a little miffed at him for the rest of the day for that little mishap.

Anyhoo….from swimming in the toilet to chic chairs….yeah, I’m that good….seamless transition….that’s just how I roll.

While looking online for chairs that have been redone in cool fabrics I stumbled on a really great company called Chairloom.

This company takes old furniture and repholsters it in cool, funky fabrics.  Take a look at some of their past projects.

And here’s my favorite…..  :)

Have a great Monday!!!
